"Everyone has a plan until they’re punched in the face."Mike Tyson

Fatherhood is not for the faint of heart. It is a lifelong campaign fought on shifting terrain — the newborn’s midnight cries, the wild storms of adolescence, the delicate conversations with grown sons and daughters who are finding their own way. Every stage demands something different from us, and the stakes are eternal.

This is not a Father/Son event. This is for fathers only — a council of men preparing for the sacred and demanding work of raising the next generation. Here, we step back from the front lines to sharpen our swords, assess the battlefield, and build a battle plan that works from the cradle to adulthood. Whether you have a newborn in your arms or a son in his forties with a family of his own, this training will be vital to you.

Why a Battle Plan?

As John Eldredge writes in Fathered by God, “A boy needs to know that his father is proud of him. A son needs to know that his father delights in him.” That delight does not happen by accident — it’s the fruit of intentional, engaged fathering over years of
presence, guidance, and blessing.

Michael Thompson reminds us in King Me, “Every boy becomes a king by first being a beloved son, an adventurous young man, a warrior, and a lover of beauty.” Each stage of development requires a father’s intentional shaping. Without a plan, the moments that matter most slip by unnoticed.

Building Your Plan

A battle plan is more than good intentions. It requires:

  1. Clear Vision: What kind of men or women do you want your children to become?
  2. Stage Strategy: What does this season of their life require from you now?
  3. Rhythms of Presence: Regular one-on-one time, adventure, and conversation.
  4. Milestone Moments: Planned initiations, blessings, and affirmations at key ages.
  5. Adaptability: When the unexpected comes — and it will — adjust without abandoning the mission. (Remember Mike Tyson’s quote.)

Training Ground for Fathers

At the Fatherhood Battle Plan event, we gather as men to:

  • Learn the developmental stages and what our children need at each one.
  • Share practical tools and real stories from the front lines of fatherhood.
  • Build a personal, written plan for each child — whether in diapers or raising kids of their own.
  • Find a band of brothers to walk with you through the challenges.

Why This Matters

Fatherhood is the most significant leadership role we will ever hold. The way we engage today will ripple into generations we’ll never see. This is about more than managing behavior or paying bills — it’s about shaping identity, passing on faith, and raising men and women who know who they are in God.

"The ultimate measure of a father is not in what he provides, but in who his children become under his care." – Greg Sailors
